Alta Koer earned her BFA from the George Washington University's Corcoran School of Art and Design in her hometown of Washington, DC.

Koer's work focuses on bringing curiosity and mystery together through a unique abstract realist style that utilizes lush color and ideas of human presence. While her technical skill and experimentation draw in the eye, her use of symbolism asks for a patient read and allows her oil paintings to grow narrative. She is particularly intrigued by body language and human interaction both with others and in space.

The figures embody (or sometimes disembody) a nuanced perception, mentality, or emotion of the human condition. Places and objects become sweet memories and bitter reminders. Ideas translate through texture, movement, and saturation to produce dream-like compositions.
She has works in both public and private collections in the DC metro area. She has designed and executed various mural projects around DC, illustrated the White House holiday tour book, completed commissions for The Parks Main Street, won contests with DC Water, and is a member of Black Artists of DC, American Women Artists, and Oil Painters of America.
