Background
Stranger Friend or Lover takes a look at the inner perception of outside perspective; debuted at the NEXT showcase in the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washinton DC.
This ten foot long triptych explores how people perceive based on their own disposition and previous experience or information.
The majority of people in everyday life are strangers, they are the largest group with the least information. To them you are a blank canvas with only a few broad strokes. Your body is taboo, most zones are colored red - off limits and exciting. They stick to the blue areas or do not dare touch. Peers, coworkers, neighbors, they recognize you but no matter how many times they see you, you remain a collection of their own ideas and background projections.
A friend knows you more intimately, you wear your scars around them, don’t shave your legs and your relationship is more calm and cool, comfortable. The door is always open to talk or not speak, it is free form and mutable.
Lovers are impasto, bright and heavy, saturated and passionate, powerful and dangerous. They know you from head to toe, and cherish every part. Doors transform into windows and become a more complicated passage to traverse. This closeness is warm and inviting but can begin to burn.
